I could not wait to edit these images from Hazel and Alistair’s gorgeous wedding at St Michael’s Manor on Sunday. I have had the pleasure to get to know Hazel who works at Ashridge over the past few years. I was over joyed when she asked me about a year ago if I would be able to photograph her wedding.

Hazel and Alistair where a pleasure to photograph and looked amazing together. Their day went off perfectly with Carla, another of Ashridge’s wedding planners descreetly overseeing proceedings. Even a few drops of rain didn’t dampen their day.

Here are some images from Paula and David’s wonderful wedding at Hanbury Manor which I photographed recently. Everyone had such a wonderful day, even the rain stopped just as the service finished so we were able to take all the photographs everyone wanted and have a walk around Hanbury’s beautiful grounds before the rain resumed just as we sat to eat!

Pre Wedding Portraits at Ashridge

It was lovely to catch up with Suzanne and Richard yesterday afternoon at Ashridge to take some Pre wedding portraits and finalise plans and timings for their big day next month. They were so happy and relaxed in front of the camera, I’m really looking forward to their wedding day!

The price of cheap wedding photography

I felt compelled to write after reading an article in a national newspaper which was published on Saturday. This poor couple commissioned the said photographers to document the happiest day of their life so they could have a lasting memory of their wedding day to look back on in years to come. The couple paid £750 for their photography of which the quality was so bad it made the national news.

In these days of digital capture and fully automatic cameras, many couples think the need for an experienced professional wedding photographer is an expense they can do without. Choosing instead to either commission a bargain basement photographer or maybe use a friend or relative to photograph their day. However good their fully automated cameras are they cannot add the creative/artistic value of a good photographer. A willing guest may not have the skill needed to work to tight schedules laid out by the couple and banqueting staff, cope with inclement weather, organise large family groups quickly and efficiently and while offering a polite, professional persona with a smile. These are all skills a good wedding photographer uses on a daily basis to create an album full of beautiful images.

My commission fees start at a little over twice the price these “photographers” charged but lets put this in context (at risk of upsetting some other suppliers). Flowers could cost well over £1000 and they will most likely be wilting a few days after your wedding. £500 can easily be spent on the wedding cake, which will be eaten. It is not unheard of to put £2000 behind the bar, I guess we all know where this will end up….. A wedding album on the other hand will be with your for ever more. It is likely to be your main, if not only record of your wedding day and will without doubt become a family heirloom that will only increase in your value as the years go by. Please don’t scrimp on your memories, in years to come you may turn out to be one of the most costly “savings” you ever made.

Just had to post some images which I took last weekend of little Elliott. I last photographed him when he was just a few weeks old and he has grown into such a handsome chap! We started the shoot with some portraits of Ewan with his Mum and Dad, Michelle and James, who’s wedding I photographed in 2005 at Newland Hall. Ewan soon decided he wanted to stop and have an outfit change before continuing with his shoot. We then took some more photographs of him demonstrating his new found Rugby skills!

The evening was a resounding success with some beautiful portraits to boot! Many thanks to the Parent Association and to all the families who came along. I had the great pleasure of photographing Emma, Matthew and Baby Bump this morning. It was the first time I had seen Emma and Matthew since their wedding at Parklands in 2009, it was lovely to catch up again.
